Grand ?snapshots in time?

0

Grand Jersey is asking islanders to send in photos (?snapshots in time?) that feature Grand Jersey from bygone eras, as part of Local and Community History Month. The month of May is Local and Community History Month and to celebrate this, Grand Jersey will be exhibiting the photos which islanders and visitors to the hotel have sent in throughout the month of April. These can of course be photocopies. And as part of this search for snippets of the past, Grand Jersey will also be on the lookout for a winning photo ? an image that not only captures a memory but also captures the essence of Grand Jersey and Jersey at that time.  Judging the competition will be pictures editor of the JEP, Peter Mourant and Grand Jersey managing director, Jane Goodyer.

Please send your photos to Stef Paddock, Grand Jersey, Esplanade, St Helier, Jersey, JE2 3QA.  If you would like your photo returned please ensure this is made clear in a covering letter and that your name and address is written on the back of the photo.

As part of their ongoing commitment to support the local community, De Gruchy department store has announced CLIC Sargent (Jersey) and Teenage Cancer Trust (Jersey) as their charities of choice for the next 12 months. Their goal is to work together with staff and customers to match the £10,000 total that was raised during their bicentenary year last year.  To mark the announcement, on Saturday 16th April all members of de Gruchy staff dressed in blue or pink (the charities? colours), collection boxes were placed around the store, and blue and pink cakes were sold in Upstairs at de Gruchy with all proceeds contributing to the fundraising target.  A customer and separate staff raffle are also being held to get everyone into the fundraising spirit. Future plans include a de Gruchy sponsored walk, being held on Sunday 3rd July along the Avenue and two de Gruchy Managers will take part in the ITEX walk – one of them is also doing the ITEX challenge in Guernsey to go the extra mile.

The Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel has become the first business in Jersey to Champion the Island?s marine environment through the ECO-ACTIVE Biodiversity Scheme run in conjunction with the States of Jersey.  Situated near to the Island?s south coast Ramsar site the hotel recognises the intrinsic link it has with the objectives set out by the scheme, which aims to engage everyone who enjoys getting out on the water, or whose livelihood depends on boats and watersports, in environmental issues.   Focusing on its waterfront location, the hotel has created a bespoke programme of activities including hands on conservation management tasks such as the removal of marine debris, the planting of native coastal plants including sea campion, wild carrot, oxeye daisy and maram grasses. Ugandan charity given a boost thanks to Carey Olsen

Carey Olsen has donated 12 computers that will assist in the efficient running of Ugandan water charity, Busoga Trust.  The charity installs clean water sources throughout Uganda and the PCs donated by Carey Olsen?s Jersey office will be used to continue to help Busoga coordinate their projects. In 2010 Busoga Trust was able to provide clean water for 50,000 people throughout Uganda where the only water available was dirty and drinking it resulted in illnesses and death. It isn?t the first time that Carey Olsen has donated computers to Busoga Trust. PCs donated by the law firm a couple of years ago were instrumental in introducing computerised accounting for the charity.

Maaarrrttynnn!

0

We went along to Snowbombing last month with this beard and its owner, Martyn Sansom. The beard certainly made himself known, dragging Martyn off the kicker naked in the pro-am. I think it must work like the mask in ?The Mask?. Screams of ?Maaaartttynnn? from the MC and the crowd ensured that the he and the beard were cemented in Snowbombing 2011 history. So why has Martyn decided to add this facial adornment at the grand old age of 25? Why for charity, of course.

Martyn will be growing this beast for the next few weeks until mid-May and the day of the Siam Cup.The day of the match Martyn is planning to cut his hair to a number 2 and dye the beard red and white. If you?re going to the rugby, you?re unlikely to miss him,

As 48% of you will know, growing a beard is a pain in the face. It?s like Movember, but massive. If you?d like to empathise or just love beards, pop across to Justgiving and reward Marytn for his dedication to facial hair. All monies raised will be going to Headway Jersey.

me & my pet: Hannah, Marley & Leo

0

Breed:
Hannah: Human
Marley / Leo: Goldendoodle (golden retriever crossed with poodle)

Age :
Hannah: 30
Marley: 20 months
Leo: 9 months

Likes:
Hannah: Cosy nights in on the sofa with a movie, the mutts and my other half.
Marley: Burping loudly. Cucumber. Being blow dried after a bath.
Leo: Balls! Any type, any size… I?m not fussy.

Hates:
Hannah: Bad manners, please and thank you cost you nothing.
Marley: Having my legs brushed every day and Leo not sharing the balls.
Leo: Having to share my balls and having my ears cleaned.

If you could be any animal or human:
Hannah: Marley, so laid back he?s almost horizontal!
Marley: With this afro… someone from the Jackson Five!
Leo:  I am one of a kind.

Wants:
Hannah: My business Kitchen Care Limited to keep on growing and be the best in Jersey.
Marley: To grow as big as Plato the Gallery Magazine dog!
Leo: Winston the cat to keep still so I can lick his ears

Interesting facts:
Hannah:  I own my own business which is unique to Jersey as I am the only woman in Jersey to offer domestic appliance repairs. It?s been hard work but it?s definitely been worth it.
Marley: Pooed out a whole crab once (albeit a small one).
Leo:  I can wave bye bye, does that count?

Most impressive thing done:
Hannah: Having the guts to go it alone and create Kitchen Care.
Marley: I did a dive bomb into Queen?s Valley reservoir when I was little. My mummy had a mental breakdown on the bank thinking I would drown.
Leo: Removed a stair gate that was attached to the wall and dragged it into another room.
