Selected August

The sun is shining? and the weather is fine ? so get yourselves outside in August!  Here?s Gallery?s guide to the best outdoor activities this month?

Outdoor – film
Get out your picnic blanket and pack yourself a picnic hamper – the alfresco Jersey Film Festival returns to Howard Davis Park.  This year supported by Sure, the programme promises a fabulous mix of family favourites and film classics as voted for by you.  It beats sitting in a stuffy cinema ? and it?s free.  So sit back, crack open the cava and enjoy your favourite films with a sunset backdrop.
The Sure Picture Show, Howard Davis Park from 16th to 22nd August, 8.30pm

Outdoor – fun
Ok so it?s not as sunny as Bencassim, but if you can?t wait for Jersey Live, hop across the Channel for the legendary Route du Rock ? in its 18th year, this ultra-cool festival boasts Tindersticks, The Breeders, Foals, Sigur Rós and The Ting Tings on its line up as well as the best up-and-coming European talent.
La Route du Rock, Saint-Malo.  14th, 15th and 16th August, www.laroutedurock.com
Festival pass, 85 euros, single day 30 euros

Outdoor – food
The gorgeous new Oyster Box on St Brelade?s Bay has finally opened ? bringing you the most stylish summer lunches all with that stunning view.  The Jersey Pottery team serve up sushi, tempura squid, crab linguini and organic oysters on the beautiful beach terrace.  It?ll make your city-dwelling friends green with envy?.
The Oyster Box Beach Bar & Restaurant, open for lunch and dinner Tues ? Sat and Sunday lunch.  Tel: 743311

Outdoor ? on your bike
With a weekly fill-up now eye-wateringly expensive, leaving your car at home and cycling to work makes so much more sense.  Pedal Power has a great range of bikes from hybrids ? a cross between a mountain bike and a racer, to sportsters – like a racer but with flat handlebars.  Light, fast and with plenty of gears, these bikes will save you a packet on petrol and beat the traffic all at the same time?
Kit yourself out with a bike and helmet ? prices start from £300
Pedal Power, 57 Bath Street, St Helier, Tel: 739385

Outdoor ? adrenalin rush
Deathly dull summer holidays?  Nothing to do at the weekend?  Liven things up with the new Vertical Limits activity at the Pure Adventure Centre ? an hour and a half session designed to push you to your limit.  Test your mettle on the King Swing, the Loop of Faith and the Free Fall Jump to name just a few ? and then do it all again.
Vertical Limits costs around £25 (£20 child rate) and is suitable for ages 8 and above.
