Jersey Reds Women in partnership with their platinum sponsor, Rossborough Insurance, held a celebratory afternoon of women’s community rugby on Sunday yesterday at Jersey Rugby Club.

To commemorate 100 years since women got the vote and to promote equality in women’s community rugby, a family carvery was served in the clubhouse at midday. Jersey’s only women’s rugby team then played against Tonbridge Juddians at 2pm.  The Jersey Reds Women’s team were supported by a number of mascots from the Minis and Juniors division. Unfortunately, Tonbridge Juddians took the win with 24 points to Jersey Reds Women’s 10.

James Anderson, group managing director of Rossborough, said: “It was a fantastic afternoon that we were incredibly proud to support. The ladies played with great enthusiasm and commitment but sadly it didn’t go their way. Nonetheless, the camaraderie of the ladies and support from the crowd was superb. We hope the day further encourages the growth of community and women’s sport in the Island.”
