Rock in the park

Rock in the park

The last weekend of June will see for the first time People?s Park  being transformed into a fully licensed Tribute to the Legends of Rock and a community-spirited Grandparents and Family Day on Sunday June 29th.

Rock in The Park 2008 will be showcasing a host of expceptional performances from Europe?s best Pink Floyd, Eagles, U2, Led Zeppelin, The Jam, Bon Jovi and Coldplay tribute bands; many of which have already performed in Jersey to high critical acclaim.  With a food village, drinks marquee and large orbital stage, the event is not in competition with Jersey Live – organiser Martin Sayers wanted to emphasize the wide mix of band genres which transcend several decades, something both old and young can enjoy.

The event will be raising money for charities the RNLI, Jersey Hospice Care and Hands Around The World (www.hatw.org.uk), a charity which sends short-term volunteers to help in developing countries, and will also be making a donation towards the new Town Park. Tickets are priced to sell out so to secure yours – check out the website, www.rockinthepark.je.

The Sunday event has been created by an idea to put something back into the community and gives families and friends a chance to come together for a fun day out.

Murray Norton will be compering the day-long celebration of music and dance with acts from all over the world. Far from being all traditional music, this is a wonderful, colourful blend of folk, modern and classic performances. Acts include Gordon Hendrick?s Elvis Presley tribute, Le Rocquier Big Band, Bollywood Dancers from the hit West End musical, Katari Bolivian Panpipes, The Disco ?70s Show, The Northern Celts Irish folk musicians, Mariachi Tequila and last but not least Chinese Acrobats.  You will be able to sit down and enjoy strawberries, scones and cream whilst watching these exciting new acts with your granny!
