£2.5 Million Pledged To Safeguard Plemont For The Island, taxpayers rejoice.

It’s a massive hot potato on a headland but, thankfully, the fund raising drive by The National Trust for Jersey to safeguard Plémont continues to gather momentum with a further half a million pounds being pledged to the cause. With donations and pledges coming from as far a field as New Zealand, the Trust has been astounded by the support and generosity the campaign has received to date.

With it costing so much to return to nature and schemes to offset the cost of clearing the site with housing being poo pooed by people that live comfortably elsewhere and hippies, it’s great that it might not end up falling square on the taxpayer’s shoulders.

Celia Jeune, President of The National Trust for Jersey, commented:

I cannot stress enough how enormously grateful we are to everyone who has helped the Trust to reach this amazing figure. Not only do we have the £2m for the acquisition but also just under half of the funds required to demolish and clear the former holiday camp at Plémont.

We truly hope that the States members will join our many supporters in helping us to realise our long held vision of safeguarding Plemont for the Island. In this respect we would urge Islanders to continue to contact their respective States members either by email, phone or by sending one of our Love Plemont cards.

In the meantime can I simply offer a huge thank you to everyone who has pledged funds and support to date.

Or we could have some houses and it cost nothing...
