A prominent researcher and writer, his influential publications include ‘Help Your Child with Computers at Home’ (BBC 1993), ‘eLearning in Education Futures’ (2000) and ‘21st Century Schools: Learning Environments of the Future’ (2004).

In the broadcasting arena, he has been at the forefront of the new media revolution since the 1980s. With impressive large scale projects including the Guinness Book of Records largest Internet learning project in the last century, Stephen has been dubbed the “the father of ICT” by Think:Lab, “the UK’s leading online education guru” by Channel 4 TV and “the most influential academic of recent years in the field of technology and education” by Whitehall’s Department of Education and Skills.

Julian Box, Chair of the Digital Jersey Education and Skills Technical Action Group commented:

“I am thrilled that Professor Heppell will be coming to Jersey.  In the Education and Skills TAG we are working closely with the Education Department right now to consider what we as industry can do to assist in the development of ICT education in Jersey.  Stephen’s extensive experience in technology and education will be invaluable in helping us to do this.”

Ted Ridgway Watt, CEO of Digital Jersey, added:

“To have someone of Professor Heppell’s calibre come to share their knowledge and personal insight regarding our education system is a great opportunity for us. Stephen’s work with his fantastic  ‘Be Very Afraid’ initiative is something that I would like to see on Jersey in the near future. This is the first of several events we will shortly be announcing for 2013 and I would encourage as many people as possible to attend, from industry, to students, teachers and parents – this is chance for us to think very differently about how we could approach education in our Island.”

The event will be held at 16.30 on Thursday 2nd May 2013 at Haute Vallée School. Those interested in attending should RSVP at: www.stephenheppell21stcenturyteaching.eventbrite.com
