Style on the Dance Floor

Over the last three years, the Jersey Style Awards has leapt to the top of the list of desirable events on the Jersey social calender. It’s a celebration of all that is local with a nod to the wider world; bringing in celebs and rolling out the red carpet to create a glamorous evening for all that attend. Bentleys, check. Private jets, check. Designer gowns and jewellery, check. We’re big supporters of the effort Tessa Hartman puts in to create the event. Here’s her round-up of this year’s instalment >>

Winners at the third annual Jersey Style Awards in association with MMG were revealed on a glorious evening last month, where the great and the good of the island and sprinkling of celebrities attended the glittering gala at the Royal Jersey Showground.

Celebrity photographer Rankin, his wife and supermodel host Tuuli, Chris Eubank Jnr, Love Island stars Montana Brown, Dr Alex George and singer Tallia Storm flew into this wonderful place so many of us call home. Attending with her husband Richard Jones from the band The Feeling, Sophie Ellis-Bextor performed a surprise set at the gala and wowed the audience.

The VIP guest’s arrived on island earlier in the day by private jet courtesy of Textron Aviation and Ortac Aviation Management. Bentley Motors Channel Islands and Jacksons chauffeured the guests in a fleet of luxury cars to DiCasa luxury property estates and hotels around the island.

The awards were designed to showcase Jersey as an international style and culture-rich destination, with some 65 local businesses, with tourism, culture, arts, retail and style being on the shortlist. Longueville Manor collected ‘Restaurant of the Year’, The Altantic Hotel scooped ‘Hotel of the Year’, Jersey Pearl won ‘Retailer of the Year and Channel Islands Co-op took home ‘Corporate Philanthropy’ award which was supported by the Jersey Chamber of Commerce.

Rankin was honoured with ‘International Tastemaker Award 2019’. Unquestionably one of the most influential photographers in fashion and style of our generation, he has photographed The Queen, Madonna, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Kate Moss, Kylie Jenner to name but a few.

The late Dame Phyllis Somers received a posthumous award for ‘Philanthropy’ for her commitment to biomedical research and other social causes. Her visionary gifting has left a legacy that continues to save and change lives forever – not just locally, but globally. The awards was collected by her son Geoffrey Somers and presented by The Bailiff of Jersey, Sir William Bailhache. A total of 12 other local awards were presented on the night including tourism, arts, culture and style after a highly successful online voting campaign led by Channel 103 FM. Over 5000 individual votes were cast online which is a significant increase on 2018 and testament to the event’s credibility on the island.

Guests enjoyed a gala dinner and a selection of Italian wines by Terre D’Italia, Jersey’s new wine and gastronomic emporium. Entertainment was in the form of top London DJ’s and percussionists with guests marvelling at the magnificent ‘flower volcano’ – which, frankly, was Instagram heaven. We danced on the pink carpet till the early hours and left already looking forward to the 7th May 2020. There is no doubt that Jersey can seriously punch above its weight in the style stakes now!
