Foodie Feature | Doran’s Bistro & The Candlelight

Kensington Place in St Helier has always been a melting pot of excellent eateries.  Two such restaurants are the focus of this issue’s foodie review. Both were in the spotlight recently due to their location within the proposed Future Hospital development, but we’re happy to say that they’re both very much open for business and aren’t going anywhere!

Doran’s Courtyard Bistro, a real gem

Doran’s, easily identified thanks to the restaurant’s lovely yellow and grey exterior, is a real gem.  The bistro’s menu is full of tempting, modern dishes and has something to tickle everyone’s taste buds. The courtyard that the restaurant is named after is the perfect dining spot during the summer months.

Whilst you’re perusing the menu you can enjoy some of their freshly baked ‘potted bread’, brought to your table straight from the oven with a different flavour every day. With fresh seasonal ingredients in abundance they also have an excellent ‘kids menu’ offering many dishes I’d have liked to eat myself, but as it’s for 3-11 year olds, I was out of luck!

Choices on the menu vary from juicy steaks and seafood dishes to an excellent selection of vegetarian and vegan recipes, offering something for everyone.  Be sure to read their regularly changing specials board featuring the season’s produce.

Finish your meal with ‘The Best Irish Coffee in the World’. A bold claim you say but one I’d support – it really is excellent and the perfect conclusion to what will have been an excellent dinner.

At Doran’s Courtyard Bistro they’ve struck the perfect balance of food and ambience.

Full of surprises at The Candlelight

Set within the family run Revere Hotel, The Candlelight Restaurant offers something for absolutely everyone. They have a fantastic and daily-changing menu which sits alongside their splendid a la carte menu featuring a host of specialities, many of which the restaurant is famous for. These include dramatic flambees and sumptuous steaks  prepared at your table. Enjoy the show!

The head chef is a serious seasonal produce fan which has a great influence on the ever-changing daily dishes, many of which feature on the incredibly priced £25 set menu. Absolutely everything is made in-house which means you’re guaranteed freshness. No good Jersey restaurant would be complete without a selection of seafood and The Candlelight has this in abundance, all supplied fresh by local fisherman.

Stepping into the restaurant and warmly welcomed by the team it’ll be no surprise that they were crowned winners of the Customer Service of the Year Award last year – recognition of their excellent attention to detail and friendly service.

More than just a great restaurant, The Candlelight has an inviting, well stocked bar, which is open to all. During the weekends there is a fabulous pianist who takes up residence to entertain you during your meal. They even have a swimming pool and sunny terrace squirreled away. A total suntrap, it’s the ideal place to enjoy a drink before you dine.  Whatever the occasion The Candlelight has you covered.
